The 2016 campaign

She captained the Harambee Starlets through the qualifying campaign that took Kenya to its first Africa Women Cup of Nations, in Cameroon in 2016.

Algeria, home and away

Kenya drew 2-2 in Algiers and 1-1 in Nairobi and went through on away goals — the tie that ended decades of the women's national team being an afterthought.

What it cost

The same team had withdrawn from competitions in 2010 and 2012 for lack of money. Qualification was achieved with no professional league behind it.

Through on away goals, with no league behind them

Kenya drew 2-2 in Algiers and 1-1 in Nairobi and reached its first Africa Women Cup of Nations on away goals. She was the captain of that campaign. The same national team had pulled out of competitions in 2010 and 2012 because there was no money to travel, and there was still no professional women's league at home.
