How the automation works
FIFA publishes no developer API, but its own ranking page loads from an internal endpoint. We read the ranking page once to get the list of published ranking dates and their internal ids, then call `inside.fifa.com/api/ranking-overview` for each date and keep only Kenya's row: the rank, the points and the previous rank. Each reading is stored against its publication date, so the series is a record of what FIFA published on the day, not a reconstruction. A monthly job re-reads the three most recent dates, which is enough to pick up every new ranking release (FIFA publishes roughly four to eight a year). Anything already stored is left alone unless FIFA restates it. If FIFA changes its page or endpoint the job fails loudly and the data-health view flags the feed as failing rather than quietly showing a stale chart.
FIFA's ranking feed currently serves releases up to 2025-09-18. Its newest releases sit behind a different identifier that the feed does not answer to yet; the monthly job keeps trying, and the moment FIFA serves them they appear here without anyone touching the site.
